UPDATE ON THE Jelani Day CASE
Update:
There have been A few updates to the Jelani day case, as promised I would continue on with the coverage that I'm aware of. I first took note on Twitter and Instagram by people continuing the Justice for Jelani campaign. The outcry was regarding the status of how Jelani's body was found. There were rumors and comments that his organs were missing. I needed to research to figure out what exactly the extent of this information is. It reminded me of the Kendrick Johnson case, there were so much confusion regarding the status of his body. There were even rumors that the organs were missing when he was still in the school gym. Which was false. The organs were actually missing, sometime between when the initial autopsy and the Funeral Home autopsy was done. Though there is major suspicious relation to this case It is not for organs being removed for black market sale. It is actually normal for organs to be removed during the funeral preparation process.
Last Wednesday LaSalle county corner Iich Ploch received the results of the toxicology report for Jelani day. NMS Labs, a national reference laboratory Horsham, Pennsylvania, prepared the toxicology report, The lab received tissue samples that were taken from the liver kidney and brain on September 8th. The lab results tested positive findings for caffeine and D9 carboxy THC , cannabis. According to the report the amount of caffeine and cannabis found in the system are not typically significant. In other words, it's like a person having a cup of coffee and maybe taking a couple hits from a joint. Something your average person, college student, basically anyone, would have done. Something that is probably in my system right now. LaSalle County Sheriff Adam Diss has continued to make note that they are still actively a part of this investigation. He noted investigators are looking over hundreds of hours of security camera footage. I have not found any information on the video that was surfaced of a young man at the front door of a home.
Now, to return to the missing organs theory. I want to start by saying, what you post on social media can be detrimental. This rumor about this young man's organs being taken, I'm not sure who started it. Whoever did is almost as monstrous as the people who belittle the case. You cannot in one hand be upset with the police for not doing enough, and then in the other hand push false narratives and false claims, because you don't have the decency to do the research yourself. Just because @thatgirl64 says something on Twitter, does not make it fact. Do you know the horror Jelani’s mother must feel to have to post that the scenario of her son's organs being missing is false. Don't you think she's gone through enough? That's enough of my personal opinion, now let's get to facts.
Mrs. Day took to Facebook to make it be known that “no organs were missing”
“I do not want to stray off from the facts. There were contradicting facts from the first preliminary autopsy compared to the second independent autopsy, but this is not a case of organ harvesting.”
Reports surfaced recently that several organs were missing from Jelani Day’s body when an independent autopsy was ordered by the family. A story in a series published in the Chicago Sun-Times noted that Day’s organs had been “completely liquefied.”
This probably is very biased journalism, but fuck Chicago-Sun-Times
LaSalle county corner Richard Ploch said some of the organs were severely decomposed due to the body being in water. But none were missing. I mentioned previously when covering this case that when a body is submerged in water it does not look like how it does on your typical true crime drama television show. It is not odd for the body to be incredibly different due to natural causes of the environment. The coroner has not revealed the cause of death they are still waiting for other components before issuing
To be clear Jelani’s family still is not pleased with the investigation. In fact to sum it all up, they have hired their own private investigator, every report that the LaSalle County office has done, they have done their own backup. Most importantly they believe that had there not been such a media outcry, Jelani's case would not be getting the attention that it deserves. The family wants the FBI to investigate however Becky Cramblit public affairs officer for the FBI told Insider news that the agency is involved but will not be taking over the investigation. For now Jelani Day's death and disappearance is still looked at as high risk due to the unusual circumstances Jelani’s apartment was searched and they found nothing unusual or out of the ordinary. The family continues to fight for justice as they have. I will keep you updated as more is uncovered.
