15 FACTS YOU PROBABLY COULD HAVE GONE YOUR ENTIRE LIFE NOT KNOWING

15 FACTS YOU PROBABLY COULD HAVE GONE YOUR ENTIRE LIFE NOT KNOWING

This week instead of having a scary true crime case I decided to share several scary stories. A few short facts that will make the hair stand up on your arm, or your spine tingle.

Whenever there was a lull at work, in between Chai Tea runs and pee breaks I found myself sitting at my desk under the fluorescent lights reading things that could capture my attention, other than my emails.

After 20 minutes of taking quizzes and reading polls I realized, that…I’ve wasted 20 minutes of my life. I would much rather read about facts that are real that can at least make my adrenaline speed up. So, I have acquired 15 facts that you aren’t going to believe are real. Facts that are so mind boggling  that you are going to run to my “Let Me Humble You” portion of my blog for a little light reading. Or maybe even hop on Buzzfeed where a computer generated quiz will tell you When You Are Going To Get Married or What Kind Of Pasta Dish Is Your Favorite:

Serial Killer Facts

1.     The movie Psycho was based on serial killer Ed Gein, also known as the Butcher of Plainfield. Ed had an unhealthily close relationship with his mother. After her death he became a recluse, obsessed with dead bodies and necrophilia, who had a tendency to rob graves and steal corpses. Ed ended up being convicted of murdering at least 2 people (but obviously many more). When the police caught and arrested him they found his home was decorated with body parts from lips hanging from the blinds, a full suit made out of skin, skull on the bedposts, masks made from the skin of human faces, noses,  a waste-bucket made of human skin and a few other items. Ed Gein was charged with murder and spent the rest of his life in a mental health institution.

2.     Aileen Wuornos is known as one of the most notorious female serial killers in the nation. She was convicted of killing 7 men during her time as a prostitute. In the weeks before her execution, Wuornos gave a series of interviews and talked about "being taken away to meet God and Jesus and the angels and whatever is beyond the beyond" She declined her last meal and opted for a cup of coffee instead.

3.     The serial killer with one of the highest murder rates is black!!! Samuel Little confessed to 93 murders with 60 confirmed. He was able to evade police for years, and fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you look at it) died in December 2020.

Nature Facts

4.     There is a place called Ilha da Queimada Grande also known as Snake Island located on the coast of Brazil. Where no humans are legally allowed to set foot. With good reason to the place is covered with snakes both venomous and not. Researchers estimate that on the island live between one and five snakes per square meter.

5.     Lake Lanier is haunted. The body of 24-year-old Dorian Pinson has been recovered from Lake Lanier, in Hall County, Georgia, 86 days after he was reported missing. This is devastating but not the first causality from Lake Lanier. The lake is infamous for drownings and devastation. Known for being haunted. Legend has it the ghost of a long-dead woman roams this lake in a flowing blue dress. The lake was created in the 1950s by flooding valley communities that contained a cemetery, fueling beliefs that it's cursed. More than 200 people have died in swimming and boating accidents on the lake since 1994

6.        If caught by a tsunami wave, it is better not to swim, but rather to grab a floating object and allow the current to carry you. In 2004, the Indian Ocean tsunami was caused by an earthquake with the energy of 23,000 atomic bombs. After the earthquake, killer waves radiating from the epicenter slammed into the coastline of 11 countries. The final death toll was 283,000.

Haunted Facts – Ghosts, Spirits, And the Afterlife

7.     The White House is rumored to be haunted. (not just by the ghost of the Donald Trump presidency) It is rumored to be home to the nations most illustrious leaders including Abraham Lincoln. There have been multiple sightings of his ghost in different quarters of the house, including the oval office.

8.     For $400 a night you can stay in the Villisca Axe House. Home to the June 10, 1912 murder of Josiah and Sarah Moore, their four children and two visiting guests who were bludgeoned to death inside this quiet Iowa home. The case is still unsolved, and paranormal activists and web slooths are known to spend the night to get a glimpse of the victims through image, footsteps, and sounds. Stay at your own risk in 2014 a paranormal investigator who booked a room wound up stabbing himself by the morning.

9.      Madame Delphine LaLaurie, was a fucking monster. I was keeping it professional up until now. She was known to keep servants and slaves in her New Orleans home and torture them. Their spirits are known to still haunt the premises that has since been bought and sold to a number of buyer including at one point, Nicholas Cage (I knew he had something problematic about him). Passersby’s  have heard moans, screams, and sounds coming from the home.

Facts About The Universe

10.   There is floating water in space -- Astronomers have found a massive water vapor cloud which holds 140 trillion times the mass of water in the Earth's oceans

11.    The first ever black hole photographed is 3 million times the size of Earth.  The first ever black hole photo was released in April 2019, which essentially means that if it were to ever swallow us whole there would be nothing we could do to stop it

12.  The reason time feels like it is going faster as you get older is due to the “Odd Ball Effect” essentially new experiences seem longer in the memory than familiar ones, so the older you get the more you experience, the faster time seems to go

Facts About the Body

13. Your skin grows fast! You lose about 200 million skin cells every hour and over 5 billion a day. Not to worry though, cells are always growing!

14.  Your mouth makes between 2 and 4 pints of saliva a day. This isn’t really scary, but it is creepy to know what’s going on in there.. and your tongue has its own individual print, like fingerprints, so if you plan on committing any murders… I suggest don’t lick anything.

And finally…

15.   Your blood makes up about 7% of your body weight. You probably don't typically think of body weight as having to do with much beyond the muscles and fat that’s stored in your body. However, if all your blood was drained and put in a bucket, it would only make up about 7% of you.

Hope you enjoyed. Now go and share these facts at an awkward evening gathering!
